Jason Whitlock has continued his barrage of attacks on Caitlin Clark, with the latest iteration calling the Indiana Fever star ‘mentally fried’ less than four months into her professional career.
The conservative sports commentator has been a constant critic of Clark since her days at Iowa, with Wednesday night’s criticism doubling with Indiana’s victory over the Connecticut Sun.
Clark’s consistency has led her to become the first WNBA player to have six straight 15-5-5 games.
It was also Clark’s 10th game in a row with at least 15 points and five assists, tying adversary Diana Taurasi for the longest streak for that stat in WNBA history.
Caitlin Clark continues to set WNBA records despite constant criticism from Jason Whitlock
Whitlock claims Clark is ‘mentally fried’ less than four months into her professional career
Clark’s 7-for-17 mark from the field, combined with a 3-for-12 figure from 3-point range, has led those like Whitlock to be critical of April’s top overall selection in the WNBA Draft.
‘Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull carrying the Fever again. I’m starting to think CC is mentally fried,’ Whitlock posted to X.
‘Why is Clark shocked she missed that 3? Why is anyone?’ Whitlock continued.
Clark did have a game-high seven turnovers against the defensively stout Sun, who targeted the rookie point guard and Indiana’s main facilitator to try and win the game.
Clark has led the Fever on a midseason turnaround that has vaulted them up the league standings, 4.5 games clear of the Atlanta Dream for a playoff spot.
The critics were out in full force after Indiana started the season 1-8. Its 14-6 record since the middle of June is the third-best in the WNBA, better than the 22-8 Sun.
There might not be a player in the WNBA under a bigger microscope than Clark, with her every imperfection talked about by those who like to criticize her. Whitlock’s behavior is expected to continue no matter what she does.
