Mercury's Diana Taurasi on Her WNBA Future: 'I Plan on Playing for a While' | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors | Bleacher Report

The United States women’s basketball team has made a significant change to its starting lineup for this Wednesday’s quarterfinal against Nigeria.

Moments ago, Team USA announced that it’s starting Napheesa Collier, A’ja Wilosn, Jackie Young, Breanna Stewart and Chelsea Gray. The big takeaway here is that Young has replaced Diana Taurasi in the starting lineup.

Taurasi struggled last weekend against Germany. The five-time Olympic medalist has gone scoreless in back-to-back games. If we’re being brutally honest, she has failed to give the offense any lift.

Young, on the other hand, scored 19 points off the bench for Team USA. She knocked down 5-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc.

From a chemistry standpoint, this lineup change should actually help Team USA. After all, Gray, Wilson and Young are teammates on the Las Vegas Aces.

As for Collier and Stewart, they’ve played well enough to retain their sports in the starting lineup. An argument can be made that Stewart has been Team USA’s best player at the Olympics.

The United States is a heavy favorite to defeat Nigeria this Wednesday. We’ll see if Cheryl Reeve’s squad can advance to the semifinals without any trouble.
