Netflix recently announced that The Witcher will be ending with Season 5 despite originally planning to bring 7 seasons to life, now it sounds like its planned spinoffs have been scrapped.

According to the popular Netflix fansite known as What’s on Netflix, The Witcher spinoffs The Rats and an untitled animated Witcher series have both been shelved permanently by the streamer.

The Rats had already begun filming in South Africa last year with it heading straight into post-production, however, as reported by Redanian Intelligence – only a small portion of the series was filmed.

The Witcher introduced the “Rats” in the finale of Season 3 already formed as a group, their prequel series was set to tell the tale of how the group’s members originally met.

The cast included Rocky star Dolph Lundgren, Ben Radcliffe, Christelle Elwin, Fabian McCallum, Aggy K. Adams, Juliette Alexandra, Connor Crawford, Deoudone van der Merwe, Morgan Santo and Stevel Marc.

As aforementioned, an animated kids’ Witcher spinoff series has also been scrapped as per the report.

This most likely means that Netflix plan on ending the franchise for good with seasons 4 and 5 of The Witcher, which is set to debut Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth as the new titular role.

Netflix’s adaptations of the story and characters have been met with divisive responses from fans, with most reactions becoming more negative than positive.

One major factor that fans aren’t generally too happy about is that the show’s former lead star, Henry Cavill, is being replaced by another actor.

Despite there being no official reasoning as to why Cavill decided to exit, it’s expected to have been caused by creative differences between the Man of Steel star and the show’s creators.
