Deadpool & Wolverine may just end up becoming the bedrock for potential superhero revivals in the future.

The legacy of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man conspicuously remains unrivaled even after Tony Stark’s on-screen demise. And it’s not just visible in the chokehold that Downey Jr.’s iconic character has perhaps the entirety of the Marvel fandom in, it’s also evident from the sheer desperation of fans to see his witty quips followed by a “Jarvis” command in an MCU venture again.

Ever since Iron Man kicked the bucket in Avengers: Endgame, the once-adventure-filled landscape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe took a nosedive, and suddenly, the future of the Avengers became dreary and uncertain. Similar was the condition of Captain America fans after Chris Evans retired from the role following the 2019 megahit. But perhaps not.

Marvel Fans Might Just Get to See Iron Man & Captain America Again

Yup, you read that right. There’s still hope left for fans of the beloved superheroes, especially Robert Downey Jr.‘s Iron Man and Chris Evans‘ Captain America as Kevin Feige sparks a fuse of possibility in a recent interview.

With Deadpool & Wolverine just a couple of days away from its much-awaited theatrical debut, Feige, 51, sat down with Discussing Film to talk about the forthcoming tentpole when the topic of Iron Man and Captain America’s potential return came up.

After Hugh Jackman unexpectedly reprised the role of Wolverine – despite the mutant meeting his end in Logan – for Deadpool 3, fans started to concoct theories about how Marvel could bring treasured superheroes like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers back into the game. And it looks like they might just be onto something if Feige’s word is anything to go by.

That’s the key, right? How do you do it in a way that maintains what has come before, and in a great way? And we’ve been spending, you know, the last two-plus years figuring that out for Wolverine. So, what’s to come? We’ll see. We’re just proud that we, I think, have figured it out for Wolverine. I think Hugh’s appearance and starring role in [Deadpool & Wolverine] is a great sign that it can be done — if great care is taken.

While Feige didn’t make any promises, he did confirm the likelihood of Downey Jr. and Evans’ future reappearance and that alone is a huge win for Avengers fans.

Will Robert Downey Jr. & Chris Evans Come Back to the MCU?

Feige may have lit a match of hope amongst the audience, but for Marvel to resuscitate Iron Man and Captain America, the studio would need Downey Jr. and Evans onboard first. It’s been half a decade since the Russo brothers helmed perhaps one of the most colossal MCU blockbusters and ever since then, both actors have been asked about a prospective return to the superhero game countless times.

In a recent conversation with Variety, the 59-year-old Oppenheimer star admitted that he’d become “surprisingly open-minded” about reappearing as the fan-favorite Iron Man. “It’s just crazily in my DNA,” he said of the role that he’s played for over a decade.

Meanwhile, Evans, 43, seems to be a bit more dubious about a potential return as Steve Rogers, albeit he hasn’t completely shut down the idea either. “It would have to be perfect. It just would be scary to rattle something that is, again, so, so dear to me,” he stated. “That role means so much to me. So, to revisit it, it would be a tall order” (via Comicbook.com).

Feige better polish his convincing powers if he plans on getting Downey Jr. and Evans back in the MCU, at least for the latter.
