Henry Cavill has starred in numerous action films over the course of his career, but one of Cavill’s best is also one of his worst concerning the box office, and it’s now available to stream on Netflix. After starring as Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, in the historical fiction TV show The Tudors, Cavill made his big breakthrough when he landed the role of Clark Kent/Superman in the DC Extended Universe movieMan of Steel. Since then, Cavill has appeared in various notable films, especially ones belonging to the action genre.
Even though Cavill portrayed Superman in six movies (when counting both versions of Justice League and his cameos), he has managed to avoid getting typecast. Yes, Cavill’s forte is certainly action projects, but he’s also done fantasy, drama, comedy, and much more. It just so happens that many of his movies and TV series also contain action. However, Cavill has also seemingly been searching for his next franchise following the end of his run as Superman and Cavill’s exit from The Witcher. Cavill’s 2015 film would’ve been the perfect start to a new franchise, but it was a box office bomb.
Man From UNCLE Is Now Streaming On Netflix – What The Guy Ritchie & Henry Cavill Movie Is About
The 2015 Film Is Based On A TV Show From The 1960s
Henry Cavill stars as Napoleon Solo in The Man from UNCLE, which Netflix added to its library on July 27, 2024, meaning new viewers can experience one of the actor’s best movies. The 2015 spy film, directed by Guy Ritchie, is based on Norman Felton and Sam Rolfe’s TV show of the same name from the 1960s. The Man from UNCLE takes place in 1963 and revolves around Cavill’s Solo, a CIA agent. Solo is forced to team up with KGB agent Illya Kuryakin, played by Armie Hammer, to stop an evil organization trying to build a nuclear weapon.
Unfortunately, Cavill’s movie The Man from UNCLE bombed at the box office. It ultimately grossed only around $110 million worldwide against a reported $75 million budget. As a result, Warner Bros. Pictures didn’t break even at the box office, and The Man from UNCLE made the studio lose money. Despite its shortcomings, The Man from UNCLE remains one of Cavill’s best films.
Man From UNCLE Has Been Listed As One Of The Best Action Movies Of All Time
Man From Uncles’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Is 68%
The Man from UNCLE landed the 50th spot on Rolling Stone‘s list of the best action movies ever made, even though its box office was less than stellar, and it received mixed reviews. Guy Ritchie’s 2015 movie has a 68 percent Tomatometer score and a 73 percent Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. The reason why Rolling Stone rated the film so high, though, is because Ritchie was able to take a popular 1960s spy TV show’s story and seamlessly transfer it into a big-budget action movie with high stakes. He made a 1960s series work for his modern directorial style.
Ritchie’s best qualities as a filmmaker are showcased in The Man from UNCLE, while Cavill’s performance as CIA Agent Napoleon Solo is grand. Nevertheless, some believe that the 2015 spy action film’s story lacks substance. The good news is that The Man from UNCLE began streaming on Netflix in July 2024, meaning that people can decide for themselves whether the movie truly is one of Cavill’s most underrated, or if those who disliked it are right.
Man From UNCLE Is Perfect To Watch After Henry Cavill & Guy Ritchie’s Underrated 2024 Spy Movie
Henry Cavill & Guy Ritchie Collaborated Again On The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie reunited when their spy action comedy movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare premiered in 2024. Unfortunately, similar to The Man from UNCLE, Cavill and Ritchie’s most recent project failed to gain traction at the box office. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare grossed $27 million against a reported budget of $60 million. Despite its commercial disappointments, audiences seemingly loved the film, which depicts a heavily fictionalized version of Operation Postmaster during World War II. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare‘s Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes is 93 percent, showcasing why Cavill and Ritchie are a great duo.
